Murter island by scooter: villages, beaches and viewpoints

A day on two wheels around Murter, Betina, Tisno and Jezera

Murter is small enough to explore in a day and big enough to keep surprising you. With a rented scooter you skip the parking hunt in August, feel the scent of pine and rosemary on the road and stop wherever a bay looks inviting.

The four villages

Murter

The largest village and our home base – a lively harbour, cafés on the waterfront and the starting point for trips to the Kornati. The main beach, Slanica, is just a few minutes away.

Betina

A picturesque village of stone houses climbing a hill above the harbour, famous for its centuries-old tradition of building wooden boats. The Betina Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding tells the story beautifully and is well worth a visit.

Tisno

Tisno sits on both sides of the narrow channel that separates the island from the mainland, connected by a small bridge. Its promenade is lovely in the early evening.

Jezera

A quiet fishing village in a deep bay with a marina, small beaches and relaxed restaurants.

Beaches to stop at

  • Slanica – Murter's best-known beach, shallow and family-friendly.
  • Čigrađa – a pebble bay a short ride from Murter, calmer than Slanica.
  • Kosirina – a pine-shaded bay with a campsite, popular with families.
  • Plenty of smaller coves along the coast – follow the side roads and look for a quiet spot.

A simple loop

Start in Murter in the morning, ride to Betina for a coffee above the harbour, continue to Tisno and Jezera, stop for lunch by the sea and spend the afternoon at a beach. Back in Murter, catch the sunset over the Kornati islands from the waterfront.

Which scooter?

For two people and some luggage the 125 ccm models such as the Aprilia SR GT 125 or Piaggio Liberty 125 are the comfortable choice. For short hops between villages and beaches, a 50 ccm scooter is perfectly sufficient. See all models on our scooter rental page.

Good to know

  • Bring a valid driving licence for the scooter category and an ID document.
  • Helmets are mandatory in Croatia.
  • Watch out for gravel on side roads and for pedestrians in the village centres in summer.
  • Park only where it is allowed – especially in Murter's centre.
